Ward calls out Mayweather to fight two divisions above his weight

This past Wednesday, pound for pound superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. took some swipes at Super middleweight Andre Ward for his inability to sell tickets, his nickname and even his beliefs.

In an interview with Fighthype.com, Mayweather first spoke out against Ward’s alias S.O.G that stands for Son of God.

Mayweather said, “Last time I checked, we’re all God’s children. When one fighter is facing another fighter, God don’t choose sides.

Ward refused to fight Martinez, refused to fight Bute, refused to fight Dawson above 168. He's desperate to make money off someone else's name, but I don't see what he'd gain from this - Mayweather is clearly better than Ward.

I think BOTH guys are just entertaining this talk for PR purposes. Let's face it, jumping up in weight and taking a challenge (and most of all seriously jeopardizing his beloved "zero") is VERY un-Mayweather-like. From Ward's standpoint, despite his skills and high P4P ranking, the truth remains that he can't draw flys to any of his fights, just being in the conversation with Mayweather can't do him anything but good. Both guys are getting what they want out of the exchange of words, but how many of us SERIOUSLY expect something to come from it? What would you put the odds on a Mayweather-Ward fight ever actually happening? My guess would be that it's under five percent, no matter how Floyd looks on May 4th or how Ward comes back from his shoulder surgery.

Are you on drugs Mayweather stirred up this shit, Ward was simply responding, however I have severe doubts about your boxing knowledge if you think Floyd beats Ward....that's fucking beyond crazy!

RAZZ-MCFC has got it right. All hype. Mummy's boy got too much puppy fat and Floydy would have to do even more gear than he's doing now........................................

Says the guy who thinks Tony Bellew's world class!

Doubt all you like - I've never claimed any particular knowledge, but Why is it so crazy to think Mayweather beats Ward? It's more difficult than a couple of years ago because Mayweather's athleticism is starting to fade, but Ward is hardly superman - he's a lesser version of Mayweather. I'd take Mayweather's skills over Ward's and I think Ward would have to rely on his size and strength advantages, which is all very well provided you're not taking shots coming in.

The main think I think you need to beat Mayweather is superb handspeed and a ramrod jab, and I don't think Ward quite has the speed, nor has he the pedigree yet that suggests he can adapt to a fighter with a great outside game.

Ward has 21lbs on Floyd and swats his punches away like flies, Floyd gets raped, make sense gav because you aren't here,as for Bellew he is fighting amongst World level fighters and is rightfully competing at that level, he has moved beyond domestic and euro level and has an eliminator to fight for the world title again...he is World class, what end of it you can debate but most definitely not that he is a world level/class fighter that's just a given!

Ward may well not be hurt by Mayweather's punches, but you don't need to hurt the guy to win the fight. I've given my reasons, you disagree, the only way we know is if it happens, and it ain't happening.

Audley Harrison's fought for a world title, is he world class? Best name on Bellew's record is about to be Chilemba, and Chilemba's another fighter unproven at world level.

He fought for a world title vs Cleverley so wether we rate him or not he is a world champion and therefore Bellews best opponent, Floyd could not handle the power and he couldn't use a strength advantage to spoil ward, there is no way what so ever he beats Andre....absolutely none!

---- I guess it was inevitable over a long period of time that I would have some parallels with Floydy, but there it is.

I even proposed the bout at a 161 lbs as a lark, but we all know Ward ain't leavin' Cali and Floydy ain't leavin' MGM Grand, but additionally, I'd like to propose this.

Anyone thinking Floydy has any chance, just PM me your bank account # and I promise to put the money to good use as opposed going to the bookies.

Could Ward make 160 comfortably though? All being well saying Andre has the massive size advantage but if you aren't used to dropping that weight then your body ain't going to perform for you how it normally does. 8 pounds is a lot of weight to drop in a sport like boxing when you walk around heavier than your in ring weight and are religiously making the same weight for every fight. Not saying Floyd wins but for me the weight advantage means less when Ward has to shave 8 pounds of his normal weight.

By that logic, I could fight Pacquiao, Marquez, Ishe Smith and Paulie Malignaggi....and the "best" of them would be Smith and Malignaggi...

The belts mean nothing.

Clev never beat anyone of note to win the title, and has never once defended it against anyone of note.

He may be a world champion, but has done nothing to deserve that mantle.

Chilemba will be a far tougher proposition for Bellew imo, though he too, is unproven at the very top.

And your statement "Bellew has fought at world level in his last bunch of fights, so therefore he is world class" is almost laughable...a shot to sh*t Edison Miranda who always failed at the highest level...and then who?

I get it that you back the guy, but he hasn't shown he's world class YET by a longshot (Yet being the operative word. Like I say, I don't expect him to get there, but I'd happilly be proven wrong).

Love it. We go from Mayweather to Tony friggin Bellew!

And yes, mofo has conveniently forgotten that Cleverly hasn't fought anybody world class worthy yet and was handed that belt.

I never brought Bellew into the thread I merely responded, but back to the thread, only a complete numbskull would back Floyd above Ward...I guess that means you are backing Mayweather.

Why do you feel the need to start name-calling just because you disagree?

Did I accuse you of bringing Bellew into this thread?

Did I offer an opinion on this Ward vs Mayweather garbage (last word should be a hint to you.)

If you can answer them two questions honestly then you get a pink slip.

Read back your original post, sarcasm becomes you  besides I never said you offered an opinion on Bellew, I just put numbskull and sniping together in my head and came up with you. Edited by Skav

Re: Ward calls out Mayweather to fight two divisions above his weight

Back on topic, this is just a marketing ploy to get both fighters names in the press, for the square root of f*ck all again...something both guys are very good at.

Ward has been feasting off of the Super 6 - a tournament that finished in 2011 I may add, since before the final bell was even rung.

He was given a ridiculous number of advantages in that tourney and it was obvious he was Showtime's new "favoured son" from the off.

Normally, I would say "not to take away from anything he actually achieved in the competition"...but I think it DOES take away a lot of what he achieved in the competition.

And since then, he's fought Chad Dawson - a light heavyweight who hasn't fought at anything lower in 7 years, down at Super Middleweight...in OAKLAND again ffs...

Pacquiao was getting pelters for meeting people halfway, and not a thing is said about Ward sitting doing nothing or fighting people at an unnatural weight.

As you can probably gather, I really can't take to the guy, and don't think he's anything special at all..."SOG" ffs?

He's just a fortunate fighter, who came along at the right time, and who seems to be given an allowance of fouls per fight, and never ventures out of his own home town, much less state.

Beyond that, he'll milk what he's got from the Super 6 for as long as he possibly can.

Don't even get me started on Mayweather, or this will turn into a bigger rant than it already is! :P

There was nothing wrong with what I wrote. I called nobody out. I also said offer an opinion on Mayweather, not Bellew.

God, I hope you don't write articles for us. You are pretty much an embarrassment to the team.
